United Methodist Committee on Relief

UMCOR is the not-for-profit global humanitarian aid organization of the United Methodist Church.  UMCOR is working in more than 80 countries worldwide, including the United States.  Our mission, grounded in the teachings of Jesus, is to alleviate human suffering--whether caused by war, conflict or natural disaster, with open hearts and minds to all people. UMCOR responds to natural or civil disasters that are interruptions of such magnitude that they overwhelm a community's ability to recover on its own.

Genesis UMC is open for business!

Genesis is a local storage and shipping facility for the Midwest Mission Distribution Center [http://midwestmissiondc.org] in Illinois. We receive and store all UMCOR kits and components until we have a car/van/truckload to take to MMDC.  This saves postage and allows you to collect and donate postage prohibitive items like flood buckets. All you need to do is package everything securely and contact us at outreach@genesisumc.org to schedule a drop off.

Do you know people who would like to volunteer to drive a load to MMDC? If so, let us know. Can't volunteer? Consider a small donation to help cover volunteer gas costs.

Update: Thanks to everyone, our school bag collection for Haiti was a success. We made and collected enough for 87 bags! Way to go Genesis! We collected hundreds more supplies for partial bags. These will be will be used by UMCOR to make even more bags. Our first "Genesis Depot" shipment is off to UMCOR next week. Thank you!
