Kids' Food Basket is a force for attacking childhood hunger in greater Grand Rapids. This organization began over 8 years ago by serving 125 kids each school day through its sack supper program and now serves over 3700 kids each day. Sack suppers are evening meals that provide 1000 calories and 5 food groups--nutrition that's critical to the development of kids' brains and bodies.
Discussions are in the works for a mission trip to Joplin, Missouri, where the deadliest tornado in the U.S. since 1947 devastated the city and surrounding area on May 22. If you are interested in becoming a part of this project, contact Denny Smith or Becky Rick.
If you're feeling crafty, there's still lots of fabric available for sewing school bags for children in Haiti and other countries. Bags containing fabric and instructions are available for pickup in the Genesis lobby. Many stores are having school supply sales now, so it's a great time to buy supplies for filling the bags.
