Guatemala & New Orleans

HEDS Up for Los Niños: Every-other-year we attempt to send a service work team outside the United States. For the past six years, Genesis youth and others partnered with HEDS UP for Los Niños working at an orphanage in Guatemala. Past projects have included building bunk beds, updating a playground, painting a beautiful mural on the walls of the children's dining room and, of course, playing with the children.

Hurricane Katrina: For the fourth consecutive year, Genesis is sending a team to New Orleans to help with recovery work (June 7-14). This year we are partnering with Martin UMC and will be working through the Louisiana Conference Recovery Program, which is the local partner with UMCOR (our national relief agency). Our team of 11--7 from Genesis and 4 from Martin--is being led by Bill Walker and Joe Bistayi. There are multiple ways you can support this mission:

  • Provide a $25 gas card from Speedway or a similar pre-paid Visa card to help with travel costs.
  • Covenant to be a prayer partner for a team member (see Pastor Joe)
  • Donate snack food for the road trip (list of desired items at Information Desk)
  • Participate in the Euchre Tournament Fund Raiser on May 30 (More >)

Each year Genesis has participated, lives have been transformed--both for the people of New Orleans and for those who have gone to help. Thank you for supporting us as we share the love of God with our brothers and sisters.
